Meeting The Legendary Judy Collins

It was a chilly March day, but Brian and I decided this was too good to pass up. Judy Collins was playing a small venue about an hour from us and we wanted to meet her! We had no idea what time she would show up for her sound check. When we arrived it was around 2:30 p.m. there was no sign of her anywhere. There was no equipment, special cars, or workers. So, we sat in the car for awhile and observed. Eventually it got later, so we decided to get out of the car even though it was about 45 degrees, we had our winter coats on and it was partly sunny. There was a little chill but it was worth it. Finally it was 4:00 p.m. and we saw a man come out as if to meet someone. Then all of a sudden a dark SUV pulled up. We knew it was her. She came out of the back seat with her silvery white hair up in a bun and a purple scarf wrapped around her. On her feet I noticed purple boots with matching tights. She looked very nice and put together. She seemed to be in a very good mood. We called her name and asked if she would sign for us. She eyed our stack of around 15 albums and said "I can't sign all of those, maybe a couple". So she proceeded to sign two for Brian and two for me. Then she said "maybe one more" and signed two more for Brian and one for me. We asked for a photo with her and she said "yes"! We both got excellent photos. She asked if we were going to the show. The tickets were a little pricey for us, but we really wanted to go. I was going to say, "I would love to but its not in our budget this month", but she cut me off and said, "but they are sold out." and I said, "yes, they are sold out." She asked our names and we told her, "Suzanne and Brian." She turned to the man from the venue and said, "Put Suzanne and Brian on the List" We Thanked her. The man from the venue came over and took my name plus one, and said the tickets would be waiting at the window. So we took a dinner break. We arrived back at the venue around 7:00 p.m. We picked up our tickets. Really good seats in the middle orchestra. A great view, though they didn't allow photos during the concert. The show was amazing! She sounded as good as ever with her high soaring voice! She sang her hits and more. She sang my favorite, "Both Side Now", "some other great songs she sang were "Send In The Clowns", Leonard Cohen's, "Suzanne", "Barbara Allen", Bob Dylan's "Tambourine Man", and many other great songs. She ended with an encore of "Somewhere Over The Rainbow."  All in all a great meeting and a fabulous evening!!

We would like to thank Judy Collins for her kindness!
